Clients who consistently have difficulty maintaining their toenails are shown how to use long-handled nail files and other nail techniques to assist with maintaining comfortable toe nail lengths. Those with corns and calluses are advised on appropriate footwear changes to assist with ongoing management of these foot ailments.

The podiatry service at Ballarat Community Health Centre is committed to health promotion and foot self management. It aims to assess and address the factors causing foot problems and assisting clients with managing the impact of these problems on their ability to undertake daily activities.

After assessment clients are assisted with determining ways which can assist them in managing their foot problems to the best of their ability which is both safe and appropriate.

This program has assisted in decreasing the reliance on podiatry services for nail cutting as clients are feeling more empowered and educated on how to proactively look after their foot care.
