Alternatively, call the Need-a-GP hotline on 5304 5666 (it’s the same information as above).

This is a great service – and given that it’s free, you can’t expect it to be 100% perfect. It really helped me find a doctor for my children and without having to call every doctor in the book.

great idea but would be better if updated more often and very about their criteria for accepting you. Both clinics I have called today have such specifics eg. “only if you are new to Ballarat, not if you’re looking to change GPs” and the other would take me but the Dr only works one day per week.

I’d like to talk to someone instead of having to listen to the tape. It’s so impersonal…

As above the phone information is conveyed far to quickly and dispite ringing multiple times still didnt get the information I required so reverted to the web site. If you’re new to town then you have no idea where the locations of these practices are and which one may suit your needs. But definitely a good starting point. If I was elderly or disabled the phone line would not meet my needs.

The GP Hotline is fantastic!! Although we have doctors taking on new patients, we sometimes are unable to see new patients for a few days due to lack of appointments, the GP Hotline lets us give patients the option of finding someone without having to ring around every clinic in Ballarat or us memorising who is taking New Patients, It also helps that the patients feels you have been helpful even though you were unable to get them in for an appointment.

Great idea, but details given too quickly – have to ring several times to take down details. Is/can the information be loaded on to the website for browsing?
