Two new services this month; cardiac & pulmonary rehab, and myotherapy.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, provided by BHS

Who’s eligible?

All individuals who have had a cardiac event or at risk of a cardiac event.

Pulmonary program – all individuals with a pulmonary disorder negatively impacting on individuals’ quality of life.

Cost

Cost is $50, no Medicare rebate.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program;

  • Multidisciplinary program
  • Friday and Wednesday
  • 2 hours exercise/ week
  • 1 hour education

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program;

  • Multidiscplinary program
  • Friday and Wednesday
  • 2 hours exercise/ week
  • 1 hour education

Both programs have been recently evaluated in terms of meeting best practice and client outcomes/satisfaction.

Will be looking at electronic referrals for future practice.

Credentials and experience

Best practice program conducted by Divsion 1 nurse and Gd 2 physiotherapist. Recently evaluated – both programs have postive outcomes.

Provided cardiac rehabilitation for over 10 years.

General public, WorkCover clients, private health fund members

Cost

Initial consultation $70, standard consultation: $65 (60min) or $45 (30min).  No Medicare rebate.

Current service available Wednesday and Friday 8am to 6pm at Newington Physiotherapy Clinic.

Myotherapy can be used in the treatment of back pain, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, muscle strains, joint stiffness, postural problems, sports injuries, overuse injuries e.g. tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome and occupational injuries. Techniques used include deep tissue massage, sports massage, dry needling, trigger point therapy, soft tissue manipulations, myofascial stretching, electro-mechanical stimulation, thermal therapy and corrective exercises.
Myotherapy is recognised by most private health funds and the patient may be able to claim back part of their consultation costs, generally on the day of consultation through HICAPS.
We are also able to provide soft tissue therapy covered by WorkCover with the referral of a GP.
